When you want a diamond ring that has a classic vintage style, one option are cushion engagement rings. These rings are an elegant choice for the bride to be who wants something a bit out of the ordinary. Given its history, it is quite a romantic choice.

The word cushion refers to the cut of the diamond. A cushion cut diamond is so called because it is thought to resemble a cushion that has been overstuffed. It is either a square or rectangular stone with corners that are rounded.

The center diamond can either be incorporated on its own in a solitaire ring or have other stones surrounding it. Because it is more unique than most, people often opt for the solitaire style. It is often seen in a four-prong setting that allows for it to be shown off most clearly.

Because these cuts are still a bit unusual, you may have to search a bit to find the ring that you are looking for. The other option is to find the stone you want first and then to have it set. You may also be able to find one in a vintage shop or estate sale. In this case, you need to be careful that it is properly appraised.

Cushion engagement rings are experiencing resurgence in popularity so they should be somewhat easier to find in the future. In the meantime, if this style appeals to you, you will be one of the pioneers in this resurgence. Although you may not often get to show it off in candlelight, it is still a gorgeous choice that will express your sense of style.
